Prices are higher than expected on some of their fresh food items and the quality is not that great. The chicken balls were tough and chewy and it costs more than buying it already warm at a local restaurant. We will certainly be more careful purchasing from here again.

My first day shopping with the new owner. I can say I was overwhelmed by the neatness, cleanliness and fully stocked shelves. I was ecstatic to see the store now sells my fav. guilty pleasure Cambozola soft cheese. Knowing this I will be a life long customer .😁😋 I met the incredibly nice new owner manager Hugh. I wish him and his staff much success in his new store...please go have a look see, and you'll find the prices of most non perishables are much less than before..totally affordable.. And they have kept the human cashiers another great reason for shopping there . Thank you..

Cheaters. I bought T-bone steaks while on sale, they were in paks of 2. Top steak looks pretty good although quite a bit of fat on the strip. The bottom steak is thinner with the filet cut off. All the paks I bought were like that. So, I’m getting charged for a bone -on strip steak at t-bone prices. I swore a blue streak and was super mad. Sobey’s (Thrifty’s) does that and this John guy learned good. I missed getting a photo of no filet and that tict me off the most! 🤬

Good for grocery shopping however they are often poor at re-stocking. They now have those insidious self-checkout tills which I refuse to use as a matter of principle meanwhile long lines at only two manned checkouts and the "music" played over the public address system is worse than awful. PLEASE just give us silence. Other than that it's a wonderful shopping experience!

Very expensive, I priced out the exact same shopping list at Superstore ($82.00) and discovered Hugh's Independent to come in at ($105.00) That's a price difference of $23.00 for the exact same grocery haul. This sure adds up after four shopping trips per month.

So not sure if it’s the change from johns to Hugh’s but the prices have increased (way more than other stores) and quality gone down. We now go over to superstore more often then not
